Blue Lace Up Dress

I have noticed that my most popular designs are the really simple ones, so here is another one.  This dress is worked from side to side in a tube shape so that it can be pulled on with no fasteners.  The lace up front adds a lovely detail that keeps this simple dress from being too boring.  As per request, I will now also (try to remember to) add pictures of the back of my designs so you can see what it looks like from that angle.

MATERIALS

Size 10 thread in blue
Size 10 thread in white
Size 6 (1.80 mm) steel hook

DIRECTIONS

NOTE:  I did not finish the top or bottom edge of this dress as I thought it looked fine without it, but you may want to add a row of sc around top of dress to give it a little more structure as it may stretch out of shape with repeated pulling of the dress on and off.

Row 1:  With blue ch 50, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.  (49 sts)

Rows 2-16:  Ch 1, sc in BACK LOOP only of each st across, turn.  (49 sts)

Row 17 A:  [Ch 3, sk next 2 sts, sl st in FRONT LOOP only of next st] across, fasten off blue.  (16 ch 3 spaces)

Row 17 B:  Working in BACK LOOPS of row just worked, join white with sc, sc in each st across, turn.  (49 sts)

Rows 18-26:  Ch 1, sc in BACK LOOP only of each st across, turn piece and fasten off white.   (49 sts)

Row 27:  Join blue with sc in BACK LOOP, sc in BACK LOOP only of each st across, turn.  (49 sts)

Row 28 A:  [Ch 3, sk next 2 sts, sl st in FRONT LOOP only of next st] across, turn.  (16 ch 3 spaces)

Row 28 B:  Working in BACK LOOPS of row just worked, sc in each st across, turn.  (49 sts)

Rows 29-42:  Ch 1, sc in BACK LOOP only of each st across, do not fasten off blue.

SEAM:  Holding right sides together and matching sts, sc back seam together completely to form a tube shape.

FINISHING:  Cut a length of blue thread long enough to lace up the front.  Thread through the ch 3 spaces in row 17A and 28A like you would a pair of sneakers from bottom to top.  Tie in a bow at top.

To all,

Thanks you for all your kind comments :-) To anonymous, I do think this pattern would not necessarily need to be converted, but you would need to take a lot of rows out to fit the MH dolls.
