Super Simple Sweater Dress

Since it is getting pretty cold outside I thought that I should crochet something warm for Barbie!  So I decided to crochet up a nice sweater dress in a neutral winter grey.  For this dress I chose to use a superfine sock weight yarn to give the dress the feel and texture of a sweater.  This is a super simple design with minimal ends and minimal shaping.  I worked the body side to side from back seam to back seam in a rib pattern.  Then I added a shell pattern worked in rounds around the bottom of the body and the same shell pattern worked in rows at the top of the body.  The hardest part about crocheting this dress was working sc evenly spaced around the top and bottom of the body piece, but even that wasn't too difficult.

MATERIALS

Super fine sock weight yarn in grey
Size 1 (2.75 mm) steel hook
2 sew on snaps

GAUGE

I didn't really measure gauge for this dress, but there is a lot of forgiving stretch so I think it will be okay.

Body of dress: are the sc stitches in both loops?

pinkpowderpuff said...

Sorry Sharon, I messed up on that part. You will be working in the back loops only of each st for the body of the dress. Thanks for pointing that out so I could fix it!

You have some darling outfits here. I don't sew with crochet thread although I can sew with threads like 'I love this cotton" which you find at Hobby Lobby. I'm not able to use the tiny hooks either. Sure wish I could.

Love that brown/pink 6 piece outfit from 2011 the most!

I made this dress with sock weight and a D hook. The dress came out just big enough for a 1/4 scale msd ball jointed doll. It looks fantastic. Thank you posting :)
