New Craft Area

As I mentioned in a previous post, the reason I haven't been posting the past couple of months is because I am trying to redecorate my apartment.  Well, I am not very far into that particular project, but I do have one thing finished that I would like to share and that is my new crafting/sewing area.  It took me a great deal of time to paint the furniture so that has been taking all my spare time.

Fashion Doll Dream Home book in plastic canvas

Hi Everybody,

If any of you are like me you like to make the furniture in plastic canvas for Barbie as well as crocheting for her.  If so, I would just like to let you know that a "Fashion Doll Dream Home"  book in plastic canvas is available in my daughter's etsy shop along with some other crochet books and magazines that she has just listed.  This book is in almost perfect condition.  I was shopping at a thrift store the other day and found a copy that was a little beat up for $1.99!  So I decided to go ahead and keep that copy and sell my nearly new copy.  I  found only 3 copies on Ebay and the lowest starting bid is $35.00.  One copy is buy it now for $80.00!  I think $40 dollars is a good deal so get it now while you can.

Pink and Black Pinstripe Jacket

Here is the jacket.  "Shirt" is just a piece of lace wrapped around her torso to keep her from being naked under the jacket in case you are wondering.

NOTES:

1.  Jacket is meant to be fitted.  This will make it seem a little small, but it is meant to be pulled in at waist and closed with a hook and eye closure.

2.  I like the look of the three-quarter sleeves, but you can certainly make them longer if you want.

3. If you like the look of the thinner pinstripe better, follow the directions I have posted. If you like the look of the thicker pinstripe better then work skirt as posted except sew back seam with what you consider the right sides together. For the skirt ruffle, waistband and jacket always hold the piece right side towards you when working all other black rows.

4. Always make sure to get the last st of a row especially when working sc rows as this pattern makes it difficult to see the last stich of the row.

5. Make sure to work all sl st rows as loosely as possible, otherwise it will make your fabric bunch up and be too tight.

6. Ch 2 counts as first dc throughout pattern.

7. BL=Back Loop, FL=Front Loop

8.  Jacket is worked from middle of back to front on one side and then from middle of back to the front on the other side.

MATERIALS:

Size 10 thread in pink
Size 10 thread in black
1 hook and eye closure
Size 6 (1.8 mm) steel hook

GAUGE:

10 sc = 1 inch, 10 sc rows = 1 inch

DIRECTIONS FOR JACKET:

FIRST SIDE:

Row 1:  With pink ch 31, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.  (30 sts)

Row 2:  Ch 2, dc in BL of next st, [dc in FL of next st, dc in BL of next st] across, turn.  (30 sts)

Row 3:  Ch 1, [sc in FL of first (next) st, sc in BL of next st] across, turn.  (30 sts)

Row 4:  Repeat row 3.

Row 5:  Repeat row 2.

Row 6:  Ch 1, [sc in FL of first (next) st, sc in BL of next st] 10 times, turn.  (20 sts)

Row 7:  Repeat row 6.

Row 8:  Ch 2, dc in Bl of next st, [dc in FL of next st, dc in BL of next st] across, turn.  (20 sts)

Row 9:  Ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 9 chs, [sc in FL of next st, sc in BL of next st] across, turn.  (30 sts)

Row 10:  Repeat row 3.

Row 11:  Repeat row 2.

Row 12:  Ch 1, sc first 2 sts tog, [sc in FL of next st, sc in BL of next st] 3 times, [dc in FL of next st, dc in BL of next st] 5 times, sc in FL of next st, sc in BL of next st, sl st in next st, leave rem sts unworked.  Fasten off.  (20 sts)

SECOND SIDE:

Row 1:  Join pink with sc on the other side of row 1 of first side making sure to join in the FL of the first st at the top of jacket, sc in BL of next st, [sc in FL of next st, sc in BL of next st] across, turn.  (30 sts)

Rows 2-12:  Repeat rows 2-12 of first side.  BUT DO NOT FASTEN OFF pink thread so you can continue with edging without having to join thread.

EDGING:

Ch 1, work sc evenly spaced around entire piece.  It does not really matter how many sc as long as it looks nice and lays flat.  I tried to get about 1 sc in end of every sc row and 2 sc in end of every dc row and 3 sc in all outside corners.  It does not have to be exact but try to space them evenly so when collar is worked both sides match up.  Fasten off.

Sew shoulder seams.

COLLAR:

Row 1:  With right side facing, count down 22 sts from shoulder seam on right side of jacket, join pink with sl st in FL of 22nd st, working rest of row in FRONT LOOPS ONLY, sc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in each st up to shoulder seam, across back and down first 15 sts of left front, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 sts, sl st in next st.  Fasten off pink.

Row 2:  With right side facing join black with sc in first st of collar, sc in each st around collar.  Fasten off black.

SLEEVES:

Row 1:  Join pink with sc in underarm st, 20 sc evenly spaced around armhole, join to beg sc.  (20 sts)

Row 2:  Ch 1, [sc in FL of next st, sc in BL of next st] around, join to beg sc.

Row 3:  Repeat row 2.

Row 4:  Ch 2, dc in BL of next st, [dc in FL of next st, dc in BL of next st] around, join to top of beg ch 2.

Rows 5-13:  Repeat rows 2-4 three more times.

Rows 14-15:  Repeat rows 2 and 3 once more.

Row 16:  Ch 1, [sc in first (next) 4 sts, sc next 2 sts tog] 3 times, sc last 2 sts tog, join to beg sc. (16 sts)

Row 17:  Ch 1, sc in each st around, join to beg sc.  Fasten off pink. (16 sts)

Row 18:  With wrong side of sleeve facing, join black with sl st in FL of st, sl st loosely in FL of each st around, join to beg sl st.  Fasten off black.  (16 sts)

JACKET EDGING:

With wrong side facing, join black with sl st in FL of any st at bottom of jacket (I started at center back), sl st in FL of each st around entire jacket (this will include remaining loops left from row 1 of collar, join to beg sl st.  Fasten off.

FINISHING:

Sew hook and eye closure to front of jacket under bust.

Pink and Black Pinstripe Skirt

First week of October with one day to spare....lol!  New personal rule.  Take the amount of time I think it is going to take me to do something and then times it by 3!  Then I might be closer to the amount of time it will really take me.  Anyways, here is the first outfit I promised.  I like the subtle pinstripe effect of this outfit.  When you are working the pieces you might think that I have made it inside out because the stripe on the other side is wider and is actually the correct side.  But I like the thinner pinstripe better for the look I was trying to achieve.  You can certainly work the pieces so that the larger stripe shows on the outside if you like that look better.  P.S.  The "shirt" on Barbie is actually just a piece of lace wrapped around her so she is not naked under her jacket.  I didn't have a black shirt for her to wear and as I don't own a car, I did not want to take the bus somewhere just to get one.

2.  It is hard to see in picture but there are more than the 2 stripes that are showing.
